Continuing my theme of concrete blocks and found objects, ‘Matches in Concrete’ is 10cm square. Again, the materiality of the concrete is evident – the wetter mixture sinks to the bottom of the MDF mould I made, leaving the coarser aggregate at the top. Whilst my concrete pouring skills may not be architecturally sound, they do provide for really exciting artistic outcomes. The cubic form creates a sense of structure, satisfying my need for a sense of order and process, whilst also embracing the unpredictable nature of the materials I use.
